Resistor is very important in a circuit because it has a purpose, its purpose is to restrict the flow of current and there is no other electronic component can replace what's the function of resistor. For example, Take an LED (light). If too much current flows through an LED, it will be destroyed/busted. That's why resistor was invented to limit the current. :)
DeleteHi Ma'am Rica! Based on your answer, you've said that only resistor can restricts the flow of current in a specific circuit, but what if I don't have a resistor is there any way for me to avoid too much flow of current so that my LED will not be destroyed?
DeleteMa'am Christine, If you don't have a resistor, there is a way to light an LED without resistor by supplying low voltage but if you hook the LED up directly to the 5 volts without a resistor, the LED will be over-driven, it will be very bright for a while, and then it will burn out. That's why it is important to put a resistor to limit the current in the LED to a safe value. :)

ReplyDeleteMa'am Maureen, the CARBON FILM RESISTOR is the most commonly used type of resistor because it contains balance carbon and metal inside. :)

ReplyDeleteTeddy, All circuit boards has a resistors to be used to reduce current flow, and, at the same time, may act to lower voltage levels within circuits. Resistors of course it has a purpose why you put it in a circuit. It's not that you can put it as many as you want. But it is safe if you put a resistor in a circuit. Prevention is better than cure #Justsaying :)

DeleteWhat do you mean? an insulator? maybe you got confused. Can i rephrase your question? you mean, "Can we replace RESISTOR?" if that is the case, then AGAIN. Resistor is created to prevent such unwanted damage in your circuit. Putting resistor in a circuit is really necessary :)
